Printmaking class_1-21-2025

We had our weekly printmaking class yesterday, and we're still on monotypes. The teacher was initially going to move onto color monotypes, but we ended up doing one more class using only black ink. I was pretty pleased with the ones I was able to do last week, so I decided to try to combine some of the different styles and textures I learned last week, but with a little more intent. I had kind of just freestyled it in the first class as far as content/imagery, so I wanted to make something this week that was a little more planned out. However, as you would expect, I forgot to sketch something out before the class, so I spent about a half hour more than I probably should have just freestyling a sketch to actually print, which is what I was trying to avoid in the first place.

I'm not appalled with it or anything, but it definitely wasn't as successful as I was hoping it would be, especially for the amount of time I spent on it. There are some parts of it I like, but I'm looking forward to changing it up and doing some color stuff next week. In my disappointment, I actually pulled a ghost print of this so that I can add to it and experiment on the piece a little more, which is probably just beating a dead horse, but we'll see. I'm honestly already considering adding some elements or changes to the first pull, so it may look different than this in a week or so when I get it back. Below is the ghost print, not quite sure what I'm going to do to it yet.

Anyway, I love making art with my partner, so it's always a good time regardless of how the pieces turn out. Hoping to be a little happier with next weeks prints though....
