Printmaking class_1-28-2025

We finally moved on to color monotypes this week in printmaking. I was looking forward to it, because I thought that the process would transfer well into looking like some of the more ethereal soft pastel portraits I do, but I spent a good amount of time sketching, in black and white. The teacher came by, luckily after I had already added an illustrated table that showed how much of each ink I would need to use, also in black and white. She nodded in approval and continued on, and probably realized at that exact moment that I was also a graphic designer. She came by later after I had put the yellow ink on my plate, and both her and my wife were extremely skeptical of my plans. I tried to explain myself, but I ultimately gave in and made adjustments that I will 100% regret next week.

It makes sense to me, ok?

After once again sketching and planning for entirely too long, I was only able to get the Yellow and Blue color runs. This is the result of 3 hours...

Drying on the rack. Still needs the red color run, but I'm not convinced that this is going to turn out well. I got the registration pretty good though.

My wife on the other hand, absolutely killed it. She had an old picture that she took of our kiddo when he was a wee lad, and she was able to recreate it almost exactly without really running into any issues. She's definitely taking to this better than me. I'm super proud of her, and she did a phenomenal job. It's great being able to make art with your best friend, even if she's doing better at it than me.

She was able to actually finish hers, and this is the finished product. Stunning.

Here's me working and making another stupid face. At least I'm not holding a Monster I guess

I think that's about it for this weeks class, and today in general. Hopefully I can get the process down and really start cranking some stuff out. She said we're also going to be doing "kitchen lithography", which sounds sketchy, but I assure you it's not. I'm looking forward to that one because I genuinely enjoy lithography and think I'll be able to make a lot of good stuff, hopefully in series of at least 5-6, so stay tuned for new lithographs soon!
