Update for February!

I'm excited to announce a few different endeavors I've got coming up in February! The first one is going to be an ongoing series of videos (hopefully) called "Unfinished Work", where I revisit unfinished or abandoned works years later and try to see if I can turn it into a successful piece. I'm going to do my best to not just finish what's there, I hope to put an entirely different take on it that will hopefully emerge organically.

A close-up to show you just what this wild conglomeration of matboard, posterboard, and duct tape has been through in the last 30 years. Not even sure which BFA it was even for, neither would have fit in this thing.

I got the idea when recently going through my portfolio to catalogue everything that was still salvageable. During this arduous task, I found an assortment of around 20-30 long-forgotten/abandoned works, in all manner of states of completion. The reason I decided to revisit them is partly out of curiosity, and partly because it just seemed like a cool idea for a video series. The main reason however, is probably my frugality. These aren't just loose-leaf sketches, they're all Sennelier soft pastels on 22" x 15" Rives BFK, so I hesitate to just toss them, as that's almost like $5-$10 in supplies alone. These were attempted at the height of my hubris, when I would just confidently start making marks on expensive paper or lithography stones with no sketch, and worked on the assumption that a masterpiece would slowly but surely take form, with little to no thought given to the content, composition, or color.

Now, there were definitely some bangers that I put together during that time period, but there were also a ton (well, ~20-30 that I could find anyway) of pieces that were whatever you would call the opposite of a banger. However, with 20-25 years of additional artistic and life experience under my belt, slightly better mental health, and a reinvigorated artistic spirit, I'm going to see if I can elevate this trash to banger-level status. My goal is to film this process and present them as beautifully edited time-lapse videos, maybe with narration or something, but you're honestly probably just going to get a poorly-lit, awkwardly-paced video of me cursing a lot and failing at the piece for a 2nd time.

As you may have noticed in the photo above, shirts are in and are for the most part ready to sell. In addition to a regular shirt and a slightly more budget-conscious shirt, we also tried some 100% organic cotton oversized joints. Despite being great quality, the image just seems a little too high for my taste, so we're going to get that resolved ASAP and get the full shop going hopefully before February. We're going to start out with maybe 5-6 different designs, but if there's anything that you see on the website that you would like a shirt of, we should feasibly be able to make that happen.

I'm ALSO going to try to start utilizing this Oblique Strategies deck in addition to my daily sketches, just to mix things up a little bit and bloat my content a little. This too has been taunting me for years, but from a different room so it's not as bad. It may end up being more of a once a week thing, but I'm going to try and keep up with it.

ALSO, the first package for my very first web sale is going out tomorrow (forgot about the holiday today), so that's super exciting as well, and it's also proof that this all isn't just some weird, pretentious, highly unorganized scam.

See, the package!? It's on the right!!

Anyway, there's tons of great stuff on the horizon, and I'm super excited about it and hope you will be too. Stay tuned!!
